Vincent J. Colletti Custom Stringed Instruments
© Vincent Colletti 2016
I got my start, as most players, working on my own instruments. Setups, swapping pickups, rewirimg controls. Eventually I began to work for a local shop doing setups and repairs. Afterwards, I started building electric guitars. I began to haunt a local luthier’s establishment where I bought a 1936 SS Stewart archtop and took carving lessons while he handcrafted mandolins. I continued my studies with materials from Bob Benedetto and took online courses in violin making with Bill Moll and  Michael Darnton and archtop guitar with Bill Moll again assisted by Michael Lewis. As an exhibitor at the Classic American Guitar Show I met Bill finally along with Bob Benedetto and many more of the finest archtop makers gaining valuable insight and receiving helpful critique. The Long Island show was also the venue for many fine players and I was blessed with having regular visitors like Jimmy Bruno to judge the fruits of my labors. Paying careful attention to all their observations, likes and dislikes, helped me to hone my craft.  I was also fortunate enough to be invited to exhibit my work at The Montreal Guitar Show which ran alongside the Jazz Festival.      Vincent (Vinny) Colletti has been building fine acoustic jazz archtop guitars for over fifteen years. His study of classical violin construction and innovative jazz guitar building have led to a unique synthesis of ideas and construction.      An avid bass and guitar player for over forty years, Vinny understands the needs of musicians and builds guitars that are not only beautiful but beautifully playable. They are truly a celebration of both tone and color.
